Valve fitting is a critical, safety-critical operation in gas cylinder maintenance: fitting the correct valve with the correct torque is a prerequisite for the safe use of the cylinder. Incorrect torque can lead to damage to the thread and the cylinder, which jeopardises the safety of the entire system. PWENT offers a complete range of valve installation machinery and tools, in accordance with EN ISO 6789 (torque wrenches) and 94/9/EC ATEX standards.

The importance of fitting valves
The correct installation of valves is essential for safe gas storage operations: it prevents gas leaks, maintains pressure levels, and the different valve designs prevent accidental mixing of gases at the cylinder connection. Compliance with standard torque specifications is of paramount importance: different cylinder sizes and valve materials require different tightening torques.

Valve installation machines and torque wrenches
The EL60 electric valve actuator is the main industrial equipment in PWENT’s product range (diameter 80–320 mm, length 400–1650 mm, torque 80–400 Nm). EL60-ATEX for potentially explosive atmospheres (94/9/EC Group II approval). EL100-C for small cylinders with parallel threads (diameter 50–240 mm). AIR4–AIR5B pneumatic wrenches for diameters 70–320 mm, available in wall-mounted or stand-mounted versions. Torque wrenches: Bahco 74W14-300 (accuracy guaranteed up to 100,000 tightening cycles), Bahco TAW14340 (17–340 Nm with digital memory), Holex 657277 (DIN EN ISO 6789), Norbar Clicktronic 340 (lithium battery).

Residual pressure and safety considerations
The management of residual pressure is a critical safety consideration during the installation of valves. Inadequate control measures may result in personal injury. Our machines and processes are designed to manage residual pressure safely. For firefighting applications, this typically involves forces below 100 Nm; for industrial gas cylinders, up to 500 Nm — with an accuracy of 1–2%.
