The maintenance of foam extinguishers (water-based fire extinguishers containing foam concentrate) requires specialised filling equipment: removing the old foam concentrate, inspecting the interior of the cylinder, refilling with fresh water and accurately dispensing the new foam concentrate. PWENT offers a complete range of foam extinguisher refilling machines for maintenance in accordance with EN 3-7 and the 9/2008 (II.22.) ÖTM regulation.
Types of foam concentrate
AFFF (Aqueous Film-Forming Foam): the most widely used foam concentrate — for extinguishing flammable liquids (Class B). FFFP (Film-Forming Fluoroprotein): a combined protein-fluorine foam concentrate with longer stability. AFFF-AR and FFFP-AR: alcohol-resistant variants, where the fire contains a polar solvent (alcohol). Maintenance procedures are similar for all types, but foam concentrates of different types must not be mixed together.
Maintenance process
During the annual inspection of the foam generator, the quality of the foam concentrate must be checked (density, pH, purity). During the thorough maintenance carried out every 5 years, the old foam concentrate must be replaced, regardless of its condition. PWENT’s filling machines enable the safe drainage of the old foam concentrate (for recycling purposes), the hydrostatic testing and cleaning of the cylinder, as well as the precise dosing of the new foam concentrate and the filling with water.
Filling machines
PWENT’s foam-filling machines are sized to suit both small-scale workshop operations (10–30 units per day) and larger industrial operations (60–100 units per day). Integrated scales for precise filling quantities, automatic control of the water-to-concentrate mixing ratio, and a safety pressure gauge.
