Halon-replacement fire-extinguishing gases — FM200 (HFC-227ea) and NOVEC 1230 — are modern alternatives to banned halon systems: they are extremely effective as gaseous fire extinguishing agents, whilst having a significantly lower environmental impact. Halon-substitute fire-extinguishing gases — background
The Montreal Protocol has phased out the use of halon fire-extinguishing gases due to their ozone-depleting effects. The halon substitutes FM200 and NOVEC fire-suppression gases match the effectiveness of halon, but do not damage the ozone layer (ODP = 0) and have a much lower GWP. Their maintenance requires specialised equipment: the gases must be handled in a closed system, and release into the atmosphere is prohibited.

The PWENT THB/523 transfer unit is a professional system designed for the charging, recovery and recycling of halon-replacement fire-suppression gases (FM200, NOVEC). Operating pressure: 70 bar. Closed system: the gas does not enter the atmosphere during maintenance. Filtration and separation: contaminants can be removed from the used gas, making it suitable for reuse. This is not only critical from an environmental perspective, but also economically — FM200 and NOVEC extinguishing gases are expensive, and recycling results in significant cost savings.
