Firstly, it compromises the quality and purity of the stored gas \u2014 in critical medical, food industry and technological applications. Secondly: rust and oxidation weaken the cylinder wall, reducing its structural integrity. Thirdly: contamination can clog the valve and regulating components. Fourthly: oily or organic contamination in oxygen cylinders poses an explosion hazard.\n\nInternal cleaning methods\nShot blasting: the most effective method for removing thick layers of oxidation \u2014 the inside of the cylinder is mechanically cleaned using fine steel or glass grit. Wire brush cleaning: for minor contamination, a gentler method. Chemical cleaning: for special cases where mechanical methods are unsuitable.
