life, or a gas cylinder, or valuable gas!<\/p>\n  <\/div>\n\n  <div class=\"pwent-belso-row\">\n\n    <div class=\"pwent-belso-card\">\n      <h1>Why does the inside of gas cylinders need to be cleaned?<\/h1>\n\n      <figure class=\"pwent-belso-image pwent-belso-float-right\">\n        <a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/beer-2345280_1280-300x200-1.jpg\">\n          <img inspected without adequate cleaning, and it cannot be determined whether its further use is safe or not.\n          <span class=\"pwent-belso-highlight\">If there is no cleaning, the bottle is scrap!<\/span>\n        <\/li>\n\n        <li>\n          <figure class=\"pwent-belso-image pwent-belso-float-left\">\n            <a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/scuba-diver-569333_1280-300x191-1.jpg\">\n              <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/scuba-diver-569333_1280-300x191-1.jpg\" firefighters use respiratory protection, the gas comes into direct contact with our bodies.\nInternal contamination can be harmful to health, or even lead to immediate emergencies.\nNo one should find themselves in a situation where their scuba tank valve becomes blocked underwater due to internal contamination!\n          <span class=\"pwent-belso-highlight\">\n            I have a professional acquaintance who says they would only dive with a cylinder that they had serviced and cleaned themselves!\n          <\/span>\n        <\/li>\n\n        <li>\n          Major gas manufacturers, such as Linde, Messer, and SOL, mandate the internal cleaning of gas cylinders for certain applications.\nThis can include the food industry, for example, food-grade carbon dioxide or food-grade nitrogen, or even healthcare, such as medical oxygen or medical dinox.\nLuxfer Gas Cylinders advertised their aluminium cylinders with a high degree of internal surface cleanliness, and had a successful campaign in England by doing so.\n          <span class=\"pwent-belso-highlight\">The beer won't taste rusty!<\/span>\n        <\/li>\n\n        <li>\n          The internal surface cleanliness of gas cylinders is\n          <span class=\"pwent-belso-highlight\">High-purity gases and gas mixtures<\/span>\n          is important during loading.\nIt makes a difference whether a specific gas, the value of which is many times that of a gas cylinder,\nretains its stability for 6 months, or can be thrown away after 2 months.\n        <\/li>\n      <\/ol>\n\n      <p>\n        In the cases listed above, the internal cleaning of gas cylinders can save customers significant costs.\nThe gas cylinder can remain in use.\nThe cylinder's use is healthy and safe.\nLaboratories and calibration stations can be sure that they can continue to use the gas.\n      <\/p>\n\n      <div class=\"pwent-belso-clear\"><\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div class=\"pwent-belso-card\">\n      <h1>How and what pollutes the inside of a gas cylinder?<\/h1>\n\n      <p>\n        The main problem with steel gas cylinders is internal surface corrosion.\nMoisture can get into the gas cylinder in a number of ways.\nI have seen and maintained gas cylinders that had ice frozen inside them during winter.\nThere was one from which nothing froze because 1-2 litres of oil came out of it.\nThe main problem is improper storage and use.\nI would mention just a few examples of these:\n      <\/p>\n\n      <ol>\n        <li>\n          <strong>After the pressure test<\/strong> in case of improper drying.\n          The walls and bases of empty gas cylinders removed from the water pressure test bench can still contain 0.5-1 litre of water.\n        <\/li>\n        <li>\n          <strong>When it is cold<\/strong> at high humidity levels, even the moisture content of the air\n          <strong>can condense<\/strong> in the gas cylinder.\n        <\/li>\n        <li>\n          At low temperatures, moisture can enter an empty gas cylinder, even from\n          <strong>through a closed valve<\/strong> too.\n          Even the rolled-up <strong>Not even a plastic plug protects it<\/strong> the inside of the gas cylinder from water,\n          if it is stored outdoors without a valve.\n        <\/li>\n        <li>\n          If the valve <strong>not RPV<\/strong> designed.\n          RPV stands for Residual Pressure Valve.\n          The contents of the gas cylinder can be emptied completely.\n          In this case, a CO2 gas cylinder could even contain beer or cola.\n          Nitrogen cylinders could even contain oil from old, outdated filling machines or technologies.\n        <\/li>\n      <\/ol>\n\n      <figure class=\"pwent-belso-image\">\n        <a class=\"pwent-belso-message\">\n    <h1>What solutions are there?<\/h1>\n  <\/div>\n\n  <section class=\"pwent-belso-solution\">\n    <h1>Mechanical tumbling with abrasive materials<\/h1>\n\n    <p>\n      The technology is already obsolete.\nThe essence of the method is to pour abrasive materials into the gas cylinders,\nfor example, rods or granules, and then begin to rotate or rock the cylinders for at least 1 hour,\npreferably several hours.\nDue to mechanical movement, gravity, and impacts, the inside of the cylinder is cleaned.\nIt is slow, cumbersome, and does not transfer sufficient energy.\nAccording to Murphy's Law, the gas cylinder always gets cleaned where it shouldn't.\nThere is also a version of this system where we guide a chain through a rod into the cylinder,\nand then start spinning the chain.\n    <\/p>\n\n    <figure class=\"pwent-belso-image pwent-belso-float-right small\">\n      <a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/sand-blasting-suit-250x250-1.jpg\">\n previous method is that it can already exert high energy.\nIt can also remove aggressive contaminants.\nIts biggest disadvantage is the difficult handling of dust.\nThe worker usually has to work in a separate spraying booth with appropriate protection.\nThis is often a cumbersome spacesuit-like outfit.\nDust protection is difficult to manage.\nResidual dust and sand can remain inside the gas cylinder, adhering to the wall.\nThey don't come out properly even when blown with a few bars of air.\nWashing would damage the chemically clean metal surface.\nCleaning the gas cylinder is difficult.\n    <\/p>\n\n    <h3>Internal shot blasting of gas cylinders<\/h3>\n\n    <p>\n      To the barley grain, by virtue of its mass, it can transfer more energy compared to sandblasting.\nThe barley grain produces less dust.\nThe size of the dust is at a manageable level.\nThe bottles are usually placed upside down.\nDuring the cycle, the shot empties from the gas cylinder.\nThe automation of shot blasting is simpler, easier.\nFewer tasks and burdens fall on the operator.\n    <\/p>\n\n    <p>\n      The nozzle located on the beer-soaking lance has multiple openings.\nThe openings are at different angles.\nThis allows for the cleaning of both the bottom and sides of the bottle, as well as the bottle's neck.\nThe multiple spray of the bead signifies a secondary cleaning,\nwhich improves the cleaning of the bottom and neck areas.\nRust spots and other contaminants can be removed.\n    <\/p>\n\n    <p>\n      Its disadvantage, similar to sandblasting, is its sensitivity to moisture.\nIt is fundamentally suitable for removing dry contaminants.\nThe granules break down during use.\nIneffective, fragmented granules can be automatically filtered out.\n    <\/p>\n\n    <div class=\"pwent-belso-clear\"><\/div>\n\n    <div class=\"pwent-belso-recommendation\">\n      <p>\n        Of the three solutions, the third solution is indeed the most expensive,\nbut the automation, lower labour costs, and high quality\nwill repay the initial investment in a short period.\nI clearly recommend the third solution for the internal cleaning of gas cylinders.\n      <\/p>\n
